Privacy policy
Your voice stays on your Mac.
Velto turns your speech into text on your own computer. We don't run servers that receive your audio, your words or your meetings, and we don't collect analytics. This page explains exactly what Velto does with your information.
Last updated 19 October 2026
The short version
- Your audio is processed in your Mac's memory and thrown away. It is never saved to disk and never sent anywhere.
- Your dictations, notes and meeting notes are stored on your Mac, in a file only you control.
- Velto has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting.
- Velto connects to the internet only to download the engines you choose.
- We never sell, share or rent your information, because we never have it.
What Velto uses, and why
- Your microphone
- Only while you hold your Speak key, record a voice note, or take meeting notes. The sound is turned into text on your Mac and then discarded.
- The app you're typing in
- Velto reads the name of the app in front, and in a browser the address of the page, so it can match its tone to email, chat or code. It does not read what's on your screen and does not take screenshots.
- Accessibility permission
- Lets Velto paste your words where your cursor is. Velto puts your previous clipboard back straight after.
- Your calendar
- Only if you connect it. Velto reads upcoming events on your Mac to name your meetings and know when one starts. It does not change your calendar.
- A call's audio
- Only while Velto takes meeting notes, and only with the System Audio Recording permission you grant in macOS. Like your microphone, it is turned into text on your Mac and never stored.
What's stored, and where
Velto keeps a local database in its folder on your Mac (Library, Application Support). It holds:
- your dictation history: what you said, what Velto typed, the app, the time and the length;
- your notes, meeting transcripts, summaries and follow-ups;
- your vocabulary, shortcuts, tone choices and settings;
- the speech and writing engines you downloaded.
Your personal statistics ("Your voice") are calculated from this history on your Mac. You can delete any dictation, note or meeting in Velto, or remove everything by deleting Velto's folder. If you bring your history over from another app, Velto reads a copy of that file on your Mac and changes nothing in the other app.
When Velto connects to the internet
- Engine downloads. When you pick an engine, Velto downloads its files from the model's publisher (today through Hugging Face) or from Velto's own download server. Like any download, the server sees your IP address and the file requested. Nothing about you or your words is sent.
- Update check (when it ships). A request asking whether a newer version exists. You'll be able to switch it off.
- Connected calendars (when they ship). If you connect Google Calendar or Outlook, your Mac talks to Google or Microsoft directly, read-only. The sign-in is kept in your Mac's Keychain. Velto's servers are never in between.
Nothing else. You can check this yourself with any network monitor.
Meetings and other people
When Velto takes notes on a call, it hears the other people on it. Recording laws differ from place to place, and some require everyone's consent. You are responsible for telling people you're taking notes and for following the law where you and they are. Velto reminds you each time.
This website
velto.bhavish.io uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers. Like every website, the server that hosts it may keep short technical logs (such as IP address and the page requested) to keep it running and secure; we don't use them to identify you. The Velto download is served by GitHub, which has its own privacy statement.
Children
Velto is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone. If you're a parent with a question, write to us.
